Prophesee, CIS Announce Partnership to Develop Industry’s First Event-Based Structured Light Eval Kit, Enabling Next-Generation 3D Sensing performance in Machine Vision Cameras

Machine vision leaders combine expertise in event-based vision and high-performance camera platforms to bring outstanding performance and efficiency for 3D point cloud generation in the kHz range

PARIS – October 3, 2022 – Prophesee SA, inventor of the most advanced neuromorphic vision systems, and CIS Corp., a leading developer of industrial camera systems, today announced they have entered into a partnership to develop the industry’s first evaluation kit for implementing 3D sensing based on structured light point cloud generation using event-based vision. The partnership leverages the intelligent individually-activated pixel data processing capabilities of Prophesee’s event-based Metavision® platform and CIS’s extensive experience in developing high-performance camera systems.

The solution leverages advanced VCSEL technology that can deliver unprecedented 3D point cloud generation in the kHz range, with a light burst emission period in the order of 100us as well as higher robustness to fast motion and lighting conditions compared to state-of-the-art techniques.

“The ability to generate highly accurate 3D point clouds using the efficiency of event-based vision opens up new opportunities to capture three-dimensional scenes. Machine vision systems developed with this approach can dramatically improve the performance and operating capabilities needed in many ultra high-speed 3D measurements for Industry 4.0 applications”, said Yusuke Muraoka, President of CIS.

“CIS’ camera platforms are well suited to implementing our approach to data capture. The ability to integrate VCSEL technology enhances the capabilities for 3D sensing significantly. By combining ourrespective areas of strengths we can help developers understand the advantages this brings, as well as provide them with a way to streamline the design and testing of application-optimized machine visions solutions,” said Luca Verre, co-founder and CEO of Prophesee.
